chicago love

I was fortunate to have a weekend getaway to Chicago last week. If you haven’t experienced Chicago in the summer, it is a must see. The weather is perfect, the activities are endless, the food is mouthwatering delicious and the views are amazing.

The second night we were there we had a nautical themed boat party that took us on the river downtown, floating alongside the skyscrapers, and eventually out to Lake Michigan. It was unbelievable. I tried snapping a few pictures along the way but the rocking boat and low light limited my opportunities. And the rum may or may not have had something to do with it as well.

After the cruising around Lake Michigan we had drinks at the top of the John Hancock building. Wow.

The next day we ventured out to Hot Dougs, known something like the “encased meat emporium”. It truly was just that. Duck sausage, antelope sausage, buffalo sausage, wild boar sausage….sounds something like the Forest Gump shrimp scene. There’s shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it. The sausage possibilities were endless. Fortunately I had plenty of time to decide what to order.

I ultimately chose the safe route with chicken sausage and duck fat fries.

We did a lot of driving over the weekend and passed Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Ubs.

I’m always amazed with the different street performers in big cities, and have always enjoyed watching the dancers, musicians and magicians, perform on street corners. While we were on Michigan Avenue we saw a new type of “performer”:  zombies. Everywhere.

Later that day we had a blast out at Navy Pier.

Loved this ferris wheel!

Hello beautiful city.

Thanks Chicago for the perfect little getaway!
